The weekend was hellish!!
Most of that had nothing to do with Bentley. It's too long a story to tell just now.
This morning the vet. gave me steroid medication for Bentley; and once again he is confined to a carrying case in order that he might remain as still as possible. This needs to continue for at least a week. We went through this ordeal a year ago, and Bentley recovered nicely.
New blogging friend, Janie, had suggested to me that Bentley may need an animal chiropractor. The vet. said she was right. Unfortunately, there is no such person available to me at this time. Bentley has disc problems in his neck and lower back area. He is really in a bad way. I tell you we are not going to allow him to suffer past this round of steroids. I was giving him baby aspirin for pain before this, and it helped a bit. If this medication doesn't work to give him some relief, we have no choice but to let Bentley go.
I have his carrier on our bed between me and Sam. He wants me by him. Whenever, I get up to do anything at night, such as now, he usually whines and whimpers. He is sleeping now. He has to get himself into a position to be as comfortable as possible; then he can rest. I have been with him most of the day. I lay next to him and talk to him. Now he is allowing me to rub his neck and back without snapping.
When I take him outside, I carry him; holding his back as straight as possible. He is still lifting his leg to pee and squatting correctly to poop. This is a good sign.
I have had disc problems in my back and was bedfast for a month a few years ago. Scared the hell outta' me! I didn't know if I would ever walk again. I know this pain. I only wish I could explain it to my boy.
I shall never forget the day the little guy, 12 week old puppy, looked up at me with an expression that said, "you're gonna' love me. I'll show ya'." He was so right. In love with Wednesday's Book: Sir Bentley, I am! Gonna go be with my little boy for the night and pray he feels relief.
Another time I'll tell ya' how he got his name...
